{"id":1020,"date":"2017-04-05T20:00:41","date_gmt":"2017-04-06T03:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mossor.org\/blog\/?p=1020"},"modified":"2020-08-17T20:42:25","modified_gmt":"2020-08-18T03:42:25","slug":"goals-2017-april-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mossor.org\/blog\/goals-2017-april-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Goals 2017: April Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"su-frame su-frame-align-left su-frame-style-default\"><span class=\"su-frame-inner\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mossor.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Darts_in_a_dartboard.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/span><\/span>\n<p>This update takes place at least in the first week of April, so I&#8217;ll give myself a small pat on the back for that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goal 1: Health<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>March continues the theme of challenging on the health front. \u00a0I continue to fight wanting to stick 100% to the eating plan and, as a result, more carbs sneak in and before I know it, five pounds have climbed back on. \u00a0I&#8217;m hopeful that the return of better weather will provide me more opportunities to get out and walk and that will help because staying active has to be a part of this, so fingers crossed.<\/p>\n<p><em>Grade:<\/em> C (Little improvement month-over-month)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goal 2: Tech Refresh<\/strong><br \/>\nI&#8217;m going to cut myself a bit of a break here and acknowledge two small things:<\/p>\n<p>1. I worked on a cool, little Arduino project which required some wiring and some programming of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adafruit.com\/category\/168\">NeoPixel LED strip<\/a>. \u00a0I got it working and programmed a couple of patterns (starting, of course, with a sweeping, red Cylon eye pattern which you can watch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xs9uABp7hFc\">here<\/a>.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xs9uABp7hFc\"><br \/>\n<\/iframe><br \/>\nI hope to add more scenarios, make it controllable remotely (it&#8217;s a tiny microcontroller that actually has a web interface) and possibly wire in a light sensor and\/or a motion sensor.<br \/>\n2. I also did some woodworking, electronics wiring and general Making.<\/p>\n<p><em>Grade: B<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Goal 3: Read some non-Fiction<\/strong><br \/>\nI&#8217;m going to coast on being ahead of my goal and knowing that I&#8217;ve got a book on Mindfulness that I&#8217;m reading next called &#8220;<span id=\"ebooksProductTitle\" class=\"a-size-extra-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0070XF474\">Search Inside Yourself: The Unexpected Path to Achieving Success, Happiness (and World Peace)<\/a>&#8220;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Grade: <\/em>A<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goal 4: Document some Projects<\/strong><br \/>\nI&#8217;ve got one on some lamps I&#8217;ve been working on for a while ready to go today or tomorrow. \u00a0On track for the goal. \u00a0(Still need to do some level of writeup on the leather working).<\/p>\n<p><em>Grade:\u00a0A<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Goal 5: Volunteer<\/strong><br \/>\nI was asked by a friend if I would mentor his Senior through his Senior Project because he wants to manage projects and do software. \u00a0I&#8217;ll have my final meeting with him this week to review the results, but that was a fun little side project that I enjoyed.<\/p>\n<p><em>Extra Credit: A<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The aggregate score gives me a 3.4 or a B\/B+ with the extra credit. \u00a0I think I should have weighted the grades a bit as my primary goal&#8217;s reasonably low grade it being pulled up by the other goals. \u00a0Not sure I&#8217;m okay with that or not. \u00a0Oh, well, moving on.<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-note\"  style=\"border-color:#629c9d;border-radius:4px;-moz-border-radius:4px;-webkit-border-radius:4px;\"><div class=\"su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" style=\"background-color:#7cb6b7;border-color:#ffffff;color:000000;border-radius:4px;-moz-border-radius:4px;-webkit-border-radius:4px;\"> <b>Note: <\/b>Image courtesy of <a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/File:Darts_in_a_dartboard.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/File:Darts_in_a_dartboard.jpg<\/a> and is a Public Domain photo.<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This update takes place at least in the first week of April, so I&#8217;ll give myself a small pat on the back for that.
